Not root. Use your own password. You'll need to enter it only once.

Oh, that's SUDO! On Mandriva Linux (+KDE) those programs asks for the root password, so I did not even read the window text. Thanks, it works this way!

By the way, early or not early stage but it runs our server with the entire
development environment on it for more than two montsh now, with zero downtime.

That's great! :-) I did not like the lag of vmware, and the system looked so stable, that I installed it in place of my Solaris 10 directly to the hardware. I started experimenting Solaris only a month ago, but I like 'this version' much better. It was much easier to set up, and there are tools I know from GNU/Linux distros.

The MS DOS 6.0-like FDISK was scary! That was not displayed on the install documentation, but it started probably because I already had Solaris partitions. Deleting them and restarting on the documented way worked well.
