Interestingly, make messages=yes install, when carried out in the version 1.5.1 source directory *does* print additional messages. The trunk GNUmakefile includes a bunch of new stuff at the top, which notably includes a call out to Makefile if it doesn't think you have a proper GNUstep setup. I suspect that this code is doing something awry!
