For me, it sounds too indirect to treat it as a promise: 
`gnutls_global_set_mem_functions` is deprecated and its documentation says "by 
default"... I would say it would be nice to leave some room for the library to 
choose a different implementation at any time or to un-deprecate 
`gnutls_global_set_mem_functions` for future use-cases.
