Thanks, the paths were the problem as you thought. Kees Zeelenberg
followed-up to the MinGW Users Mailing list (I crossposted the query
newsgroup-style because I use Gmane; having the news interface creates an
opportunity to use nice ng posting strategies that i just cannot resist). I
