Dear gnuwin32 people,
I am using a win32 port of tar to backup data to my SCSI tape drive.
However I am being fustrated by the no-rewind option that tar defaults to.
As I understand it, tar for unix does not control the automatic rewinding of the tape drive, that
is done by have two different device drivers, a no-rewind and a rewind one.
However windows doesn't have no rewind device drivers so when I execute many such
tar rf \\tape0 myfile
commands in a row, I keep getting rewound to the beginning of the tape.
I have searched around quite a lot - I believe the tar port provided with cygwin has a solution to this but
i want to use a native port.
All I want to do is not-rewind the tape after every tar command.
Can anyone help me here?
replies by private e-mail please.
Many thanks,
-iain
