Wow. I guess that means getting Lecavalier is out of the question now.
:-)

Good for him, and it'll be hard for anyone to trot out that tired old *Cheap
Bastards* whine anymore. I guess they know what they are doing, and his
salary is less than what they are paying for 2 goaltenders this year, but one
has to wonder how they intend on keeping everyone they have now. I suppose all
teams are going to be faced with the same problem, but their window of
opportunity for this team is pretty short, pretty much this year and next year.
No one thinks the salary cap is going to be close to what it is now for the
2010-11 season. I'm just not sure on the entire concept of long term deals
now, and while Thomas isn't a young player anymore, the problem is expecially
troublesome with young players. I like Patrice Bergeron, he's a great guy,
good player, works hard, and I don't know if it's his injury, or whatever it
is, but he isn't worth what he is being paid now, and that is a long term deal.
I hope he comes around and it won't be an
issue by next year, but usually everyone is happy when deals get done, but
they don't always work out for the best. If Thomas is getting 5.2M, what is
Phil Kessel going to be asking for ? They are up against ther Cap right now,
with many key players, in relative terms, making peanuts, Milan Lucic, Blake
Wheeler, Phil Kessel, David Krecji. I fear for the future of PJ Axelsson. If
you just look at his production you might say he was overpaid, and in the era
of a salary cap he looks like the kind of guy who won't be re-signed, but they
could never replace what he brings to the team for his current 1.8 M, or
whatever it is he makes.
