What will be interesting is what happens with Kessel and Krejci this offseason.
Are there teams out there that will give out a huge offer sheet even knowing
what is to come after 2010? Are there other RFAs out there who will draw the
same kind of interest as Krejci and Kessel?

I have no idea if they will draw a lot of interest or not. No doubt some GM's
will be thinking about Dustin Penner and the offer Edmonton made to him, and
how that turned out. The problem isn't really HUGE offers either, it's just
reasonable offers are going to cause the Bruins problems. Let's just say the
Bruins decide both Kessel and Krecji deserve 50% raises. That would neither be
out of line, or acceptable to either of the players Agents, but 50% raises
would be more than enough to put the Bruins in a salary cap problem. These
aren't the so called Cheap Bruins of a previous era. Just giving everybody a
small raise, forget giving them a raise they deserve puts the Bruins in a bad
situation. They gain a little with Murray's salary off the books, but they
don't have a lot of wiggle room to play with. Just look at the team they have
right now, and of the cap goes up, it won't be by much. Manny Fernandez will
be gone, no doubt replaced by Tukka
Rask, but that's more money on goaltenders than they currently spend. Phil
Kessel is due a major raise. Patrice Bergeron had 1 more solid season behind
him than Phil Kessel does, but they gave him an average of 5M a year or close
to that for 5 years. They gave Thomas 5.2M a year, and I'm not saying they did
or didn't deserve it, but given the facts, and you being Phil Kessel's Agent,
what is a reasonable offer. Even if it's something insanely low, like say 6M
for a 2 year deal, it's puts the Bruins in a bad place. I don't know who else
is due, but pick a name out of the hat, Shane Hnidy, so you don't re-sign him,
but you need a body to replace hem, and that body has to be paid. They could
get a defenceman cheaper than say Aaron Ward, but if it's for less money,
pretty slim chance it would be an upgrade. I think PJ Axelsson is up after
the season, he makes 1.8 M, so lets say they don't sign him. If they replace
him with another guy making 1.8M
it's highly doubtful he'd be an upgrade on PJ. I think PJ is the kind of guy
who will get a lot of offers, not for a lot more than 1.8M, but for somewhat
more. Just keeping the team they have now is a problem, unless a lot of guys
agree to take a *Home Town Discount*, and I think PJ did when he signed his
last contract, and he may well do it again, but I think just keeping the team
together that they have now is going to be very tough.
