It is interesting to note that Poducherry is 4km away from Arikamedu, where 
there are traces of the Romans. Finds of new variety of Roman Amphorae ware 
also facilitated revision of the dates of occupancy. They have also inferred 
that the site has been in continuous occupation since at least 2nd or 3rd 
century BCE to much more recent times.  

The Romans were referred as Romakas in India while the Romans referred Indians 
as Indos. 
We can imagine ships passing along the Konkan coast (Gopakapattana ?) . 
Indo-Roman relations were built on trade. Roman trade in India began with 
overland caravans and later by direct maritime trade following the conquest of 
Egypt by Augustus in 30 BCE .






While in Goa, dictatorship and colonialism, simultaneously, were in force, in 
Puducherry (Pondicherry) despite the colonial policy,Liberté, Égalité, 
Fraternité were practiced, thus since 1954, the government ofIndia had made it 
clear that the cultural and other rights of the people wouldbe fully 
respected.Then, France jumped from Puducherry to Goa. 
Since 2007, Alliance Française, Panaji (AFP), in Altinho, next to 
MenezesPolyclinic, has been fostering intercultural dialogue and amicable 
relations betweenFrance and Goa. 

ThierryMathou, the Ambassador of France in India recently paid a visit to the 
AllianceFrançaise Panaji. It was his first official visit to Goa. 

French President Emmanuel Macron will visit India'scapital New Delhi on January 
26 for India's Republic Day, and would be welcomedas "chief guest".

AFP organize the Ciné-Night (movie nights) for cinephiles, the Fête de la 
Musique (musical evening), the Fête Nationale (French National Day) and many 
more culturalevents.

Une amitié très forte, n'est-ce pas ?
