PTI Panaji, April 12 With an eye on the coming elections to the state Assembly, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Friday announced a development package for Goa including linking the state with the proposed North-South corridor. Addressing a public meeting on the sidelines of the BJP National Executive meeting here, Vajpayee said work has already commenced on the Rs 60,000 crore National Highway project linking north to the south and east with the west. "Goa would be linked to the North-South corridor and the National Highway number 17 passing through Goa would be converted into a four-lane highway," the Prime Minister announced to loud cheers from the crowd. With a view to attract more tourists to the coastal state, the sewerage system would be improved and even far-flung roads would be linked by a road network, he said. Efforts would also be made to resolve the water shortage and pollution problem in North Goa, Vajpayee said. Vajpayee said the Goa Assembly was dissolved as those in power had "no lust for power".
