The Goan society is different from the rest of the country. Hindus and Catholics have lived in Goa in harmony. I for one do not see that change. Even in Goa, I see that it is mostly the corrupt politicians, who are raising the spectre of communalism. One cannot apply the model of rest of India to Goa.
The Hindu-Muslim rivalry in Gujarat has been there for decades. Communal violence in Gujarat has been taking place even when the Congress party was in power. I cannot see how the BJP could be singlarly blamed for all that ails India. The people of the country have the power to elect or defeat any regime that they do not like. Had the Congress been that efficient, non-corrupt, clean, it would not have been sitting in the opposition benches. Having met Parrikar during a visit to Goa, I was very much impressed with his intellect and his ideas. I see quite a few people on Goanet, unnecessarily malign him. Ask the people of Panjim whether there have been improvements in the city. I had spoken to him about the corruption and he explained to me how tough it was to achieve the goal of no corruption. I think that he has indeed provided the cleanest Government in recent memory.
