EXPATRIATE GOANS� VOICE. The expatriate Goans and especially Gulf Goans have shown lot of interest in the affairs of Goa and its well being. Regretably our efforts are directed only to help financially Goan affairs without any collateral rights and unfortunately we never asked for it too. Our wish is to see everytying good in Goa for the sake of Goans. To express our views we need a weapon and a powerful one so that we can forecefully put forth our views and change the course of action. To our misfortune, since the exit of Portuguese from Goa the Goan Press is dominated by antiGoan forces. Even today Goan Press is not independent as it should be. Money power plays important role in purchasing the views and according to money power the press is changing its colours even though after the advent of Herald in English things have changed a lot for the good of Goa � e.g., the campaign for Konkani and Statehood. Still things can improve a lot if we had an independent press and the need of it now is more than at any time. Church which is a powerful organization having exhaustive money power or at least enormous powers to collect funds should have started one English Daily soon after the exit of Portuguese to propagate its views not necessarily Christian views but at least right views for the right thinking citizens of Goa. Inspite of having ample facilities and avenues Church failed in this direction. In order to have our views and the views of free thinkers expressed freely in 1978 when Novem Goem Pratisthan was initiated in Goa we from Kuwait itself donated around 5 lakhs of rupees to start two Konkani Dailies � one in Nagri Script and the other in Roman script. According to NGP which was initiated by Samir Kelekar�s father Gurunath Kelekar when the collection of rupees one lakh is attained Romi script daily will start and Nagri script when collection reaches to 5 lakhs. We were very happy during the initial stages but gradually the members of NGP started fighting like dogs and cats � main culprits being Samir Kelekar�s father Gurunath Kelekar and the late Doctor Rebello and because of this fight finally Novem Goem daily in Roman script had to wind up its operation after a few years of existence. Nagri script Konkani daily never hit the stands. In this way Samir Kelekar�s father and other NGP Trustees betrayed us with a judas kiss for which they will suffer a lot becaue the money we gave as donation was not only money but it consists of our sweat and blood. Let the curse of our blood come upon all those who cheated us. Not only on them but even on their generations. Gulf Goans and expatriate Goans in general have got lot of views to express. Goa based Goans who are really great lovers of Goa want to express their views on the forthcoming election to direct the people in right direction. But where is the avenue? For expatriate Goans this is the only forum but this forum is accessible only to a few and mainly to the expatriates but the real people who should read our views and change their minds in the coming elections are not having the previllege of this forum. Precisely because of this there is imperative need of independet Newspaper in Goa which will really fight for the right cause of Goa and Goans and promote and support the right candidates The current press existing in Goa is dominated by some influential forces for whom the press has to owe its allegience. We expatriate Goans are having lot of influential and moneyed Goans spread all around the World, they think and wish good of Goa but what is the use of all these? To put their thoughts and views into practice they have to have a forum to air their views freely and fearlessly. Politics in Goa is gone into the hands of rascals. Public awareness has to be done very strongly and forcefully and in bigger scale. Church so far has failed to play its role the way it should be. The influential people in Goa are not much keen in protecting Goa and Goans, they are like politicians interested only in gaining power and money at the cost of Goa and Goans. To expose these rogues you need very strong press and also very independent backed by fearless people. To have our views expressed we must have fearless people. This is the time for expatriate Goans to think very hard. We organize parties and festivals in the name of Goa and Goans but not thinking to help the upliftment of Goa. The Goans in the West having adopted passports are making very big noise but in reality they could do much more than that. International Goan conventions have been organized and office bearers are elected and selected, their contributions for the real cause of Goa and Goans was really evaluated or not I do not know but many of them for me are novices as far as Goan causes are concerned. What role these people are playing to protect Goa and Goan interest? If you raise your voice for the cause of Goa, only one Goan among the Western Goans come forward forcefully and openly and that is Agnelo Gomes from USA. The rest are involved in only organising ball room dances and thereby giving distorted image of Goan culture. Now at present expatriate Goans should flood the Goan press � in the absence of our own independent press � with advertisements awakening Goans consience to elect the right candidates. Now is the time for us to flood Goan press with advertisement condemning AND EXPOSING all the defectors who sucked the blood of poor Goans. Now is the time for expatriate Goans to flood Goa with big posters and banners exposing all the exposures of defector, crook, robber and disgraceful former MLAs/Ministers and current candidates. Unless this is done people and ordinary people in Goa will not know what is good and what is bad. Internet will not help the common people in Goa however best we may express our views. Internet is still a luxury for common man in Goa though it is a necessity for many of the expatriate Goans.
