"Peeve" is your word and not a word that I would choose to use. Mine was "wish". And I still wish writers like Arundhati Roy who is a recognised activist draws attention to each and every crime committed in my country in the quest for getting rid of them. >That once again comes to the question. Is there a qualifier that exists >that requires a writer to write on the other "crimes" first before writing >about Gujarat? Absolutely not ! And I said that before I think. After all I was one of the first persons (if not the first) to actually condemn the Gujarat riots. But you choose to ignore that in your zeal to portray my message as belittling the crimes committed on minorities. Unfortunately your trying to twist things only serves to expose your own narrow views still further. >If that is the case then I think our English teachers across the world >omitted teaching us the Sunila Doctrine, which is, namely, that before >writing on any issue, you *must* write on issues near and dear to >Sunila,>otherwise, the rest of Goanet will get another long mail from >the>apologists of the Hindu Right.>Literary critique usually means that you >criticize the writings of an >author either for factual errors, incompleteness, misinterpretations, >scope or generalizations. Sunila's critique goes a step further. She >has>has decided that criticism now also includes what you did not write >about. > This is not about English, or literature or critique. It is about issues and crimes and horrible situations. It is about activism. But maybe it is beyond your comprehension... . >It does seem, from the Sunila Doctrine, that the sorrow of one person >in Gujarat is inconsequential because of the sufferings of millions of >others. And any attempt to grieve for them, or express outrage, is an >outrage in itself. No Tariq. You are judging me by your standards. Please don't do so. Because for you the sorrow of everyone else in inconsequential when compared to that of Muslims. To me the sorrow of everyone is the same and equally important because I don't look to see what religion the person suffering belongs to. You are outraged because I dare to mention the suffering of others besides those of Gujarat. I am outraged because nobody really cares about people suffering whether in Gujarat or elsewhere no matter what religion. Big difference ! but no problem. You won't understand such logic. >I fail to understand the logic of this argument. There ...I just agreed with you. >It seems that, I cannot >even mourn the death of my father unless I mourn the death of everyone >else's father with the same passion and grief. I don't joke about death Tariq. If you think of death so flippantly then please go ahead. But you are on your own there. >As an aside, I have ignored your counter-claims of tragedy for precisely >the same reason I had put mine - they serve no purpose! >Tragedy is meant to be grieved, pondered upon and reflect, not used as an >opportunity to submit counter claims of even more horrific tragedies. Tragedy happens to all of us. You only choose to sympathise with tragedies to people you identify with i.e. Muslims and minorities (of course until they rest of the minorities don't impinge on Muslim rights). You choose to ignore the rest of the people as you yourself have admitted. It is precisely that which is the cause of riots and crimes the world over. And obsessions lead to more crime such as the jihadi kind. Which makes me think ....Are we going to see you with a beard and a gun in your hand next ? ;-) Cheers, Sunila P.s. I think we have exhausted the topic threadbare. But if you would like to display your childishness once again with your penchant for having the last word....do go ahead. ;-) _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-W-E-B---S-I-T-E-=-=-= To Subscribe/Unsubscribe from GoaNet | http://www.goacom.com/goanet =================================================================== For (un)subscribing or for help, Contact: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dont want so many e=mails?
