I think that the question of Konkani being "nothing but an undeveloped form of Marathi" had been settled in no unclear terms, and scientifically, by Shennoy Goembab in his "Konknni Bhaxechem Zoit" where he proved that "Konkani was as complete a language as any" (Shantaram Varde Valaulikar in "Goa Today", June 2000) and that Konkani started existing as a full-fledged language long before Marathi. The unluckiness of our language is that, unlike Marathi, it never benefited from favours or patronage from the powers that be, be it during the Portuguese dominance of Goa, be it before 1510 and even after 1961. Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa Konkani Akademi and all Konkani scholars should write to The Navhind Times to counteract Jaisinghrao V. Rane's above "dictum" in today's "Panorama".
