Those of us of Indian origin and Goans in particular have to learn the
meaning of 'Enough is Enough' and not beat their drums to the same rythm.
They become boring and intollerable and I can understand the feelings of
Santosh and Samir and many others who cherish the fact (after having spilt
blood) that we have our own language recognised by the Government of India.
No one should be forced to study Konkani and if they choose to learn and
speak Marathi, so be it. Marathi speaking Goans should note that they make
life for themselves more difficult if they persist in not knowing Konkani.

There are a host of languages that are akin to each other without
controversy. The Spaniards can claim that Portuguese is a root of Spanish and
it is so. But after centuries of development and use, it has become a
language in its own right. Similarly, Dutch, Swiss German, Austrian and even
the language of Alsace Lorraine and the Saarland are derived from the German
Sprache. So what, there is no controversy in Europe over their identities. So
why in India and in Goa in particular should someone like Jaisinghrao Rane,
whose ancestors were given shelter in Goa and who helped the Portuguese Army
dominate Indians and Africans (The Rane's served in the Portuguese Army in
Africa) attempt to make such a ridiculous statement? We in Goa are happy to
live with Konkani and no one is forced to learn it. Those who maintain that
we should accept the predominant position of Marathi should just step over
the border to live where they are comfortable.

Well said Santosh and I do hope that you have found a cure for AIDS.
