Thankfully saints are not made by the Vatican, it may canonize them. Saints are made
by the individuals themselves who live a saintly life and by the people who hold them
in their hearts regardless of the "miracles" and the canonization by the Vatican.
Miriads of people live a saintly life. They are saints because they lived a holy life
- being good and doing good, and in their death they continue to inspire us, and may
be they perform miracles too.

Historically canonizations in the Catholic Church has been mired in the politics. Pope
John Paul II has developed a penchant to canonize (by the latest count some 475 or so,
more than any other Pope) and also developed a fondness for some individuals that he
met in person, and he thinks lived a holy life, such as Padre Pio, Edith Stein,
Escriva (founder of the Opus Dei) and Mother Theresa, just to name a few, and he has
aggressively moved to canonize them. It is a personal "thing" for him.

We do not need canonized individuals; we need saints who will continue to inspire us
so that we can attain our best and live a good and fruitful life.

For example I consider my father a saint, many of you do about your own
fathers/mothers, etc. Like millions of other people lived a quiet but holy life and we
hold them on the altar of our hearts without any fanfare. Mother Theresa is a saint
regardless of miracles and canonization. People hold her on the altar of their hearts.

For those who view the world and life through spiritual eyes, everything is a miracle,
including the cure of an illness through the intervention of medicine and medical
professionals. That most of us get along with each other is a miracle. Personally,
that my doctor was able to successfully close a hole in my heart with a simple device
within a two hour procedure and that I could go home the same day and resume my work
the next day is a miracle of the medicine. For this miracle I thank God and the
scientists and the doctors and all who contributed to this marvelous medical
development. I stand in awe of human scientific achievement and that is a miracle.

Scientists, doctors and human beings in general are God's agents of miracles who
continuosly perform "mirabile" acts - acts of awe and amazement. The etymology of
miracle is rooted in latin "mirabile".

Miracles or no miracles, canonization or no canonization, there are saints all around
us doing ordinary things in extraordinary manner.
