ANJUNA CHURCH MOOTS SPIRITUAL TOURISM: In what seems to be a novel concept, St Michael's Church, Anjuna, is contemplating on organizing retreats, meditations, discourse and other religious activities entitled Spiritual Tourism in the near future. The idea was disclosed on December 20 by Fr Ubaldo Fernandes, SFX, parish priest, at a press briefing while unveiling the programmes scheduled to be held to mark the fourth centenary celebrations of the Church from December 23. The ambitious year-long programme will take off with a Eucharistic celebration and a "prakash yatra" (a torch-lit procession) throughout the parish on December 23. (H)
Congratulations to Fr. Ubaldo for this initiative.
I would, however, urge Fr. Ubaldo not to focus on making it too religious and dreary. He stands the danger of turning off the middle-of-the-road people.
Instead, he needs to make it fun and focus on the practicalities of alternatives to the dangers facing the Anjuna youth, e.g. drugs, rave parties, child abuse, etc.
