FN >> Dear Netters: I believe that Goanet, tends to be overly free and democratic. Those who were permanently barred, for cause, were given another chance. Herman, Rico and Viviana have done an excellent job of moderating and bringing a semblance of decency to this forum, despite some rabid postings. Kudos to the A-Team. The timely release of Goanet Rules, Regulations and Guidelines is apropos. It is very easy to be critical of individuals, or neighbouring countries, based upon skewed ideologies or warped thinking. The physician heal thyself concept is apt. Some readily see a splinter in the eye of others but fail to notice the plank in theirs. The Indo-Pak subcontinent is wreaked with far greater plagues from so-called elected officials than from the erstwhile colonizers. And the finger pointing is an easy cop-out, just like that old Goan saying: The robber steals and runs off with the booty shouting loudly in the process, in order to create confusion :( If any good soul is totally dedicated and committed towards vanquishing hunger, illiteracy, malnutrition and poverty, then disinformation is spread and subterfuge resorted to, in order to maintain the status quo, or debunk the truth. Debating and point scoring is the modus operandi of some in order to divert attention from the real issues, under the garb of false patriotism, etc. As Tim poignantly wrote: "Whether we like it or not, we (i.e. you and I living in the West) are still perceived by First World society to be clutching a begging bowl -- be it real or virtual." Typical Fakirs. Self-discipline is the prerequisite for Internet decorum. We must treat others as we would like to be treated by others, i.e., with the utmost courtesy and respect. Also, we must encourage divergent ideas. After the recent nonresident Goans meet, it is foolhardy to assert: "The truth is that All Goans are Indians" unless of course if one suffers from tunnel vision. Goans, from different nationalities converged upon Goa in December as a wake up call, and its time to take off the blinders. Loyalty is the last but not the least component. When confronted with allegiance to other lists, it is best to pick and stick to one, rather than resorting to games which we all have seen played, rather deftly. I am proud to be a part of Goanet and will be glad to assist in any way I can. We should all give it our best shot.
