So? What's the point? Is being "superior" an end in itself? Or, are we
going in for mere emotive victories-that-don't-matter?

India & Sachin score 18 runs off the first over of that loud mouth Rawalpindi Express - Shoaib Akhtar and you call it a "mere emotive victories-that-don't-matter". You okay or what ? ;-)

I would be really proud to see an India that, as Tim said, could hold its
head high internationally for being able to allow each and every citizen
attain his or her full potential.

Why can't you just enjoy the victory without going into what we don't have? Let's focus on what we have for now....and that is a big cricket victory (a non-violent and legal act) against a country that has killed thousands (probably millions) of people in our country. When Brazil won the World Cup, they didn't go and cry about the utter poverty and misery that lies there. They had a whale of a time. Do that for once and enjoy it while it's there. Let's keep the agonies and preaching for another time.

Have some fun and note this CNN flash sms that circulated around here :

"Rawalpindi Express derailed. 11 dead, 10 crore injured, 100 crore happy."

If Pakistan also attained that, so much the better. It would probably
make for a more stable South Asia.

Sure. But would that make them less hostile towards India ? Material riches don't change mind sets. Bush and America is a big example.
