The CBI officials found property, fixed deposit receipts, etc worth Rs 43 lakh during the raids, of which assets worth over Rs 28 lakh were found to be disproportionate to the known source of income of the superintendent.
According to information provided by sources, the customs official has purchased a plot of land worth Rs 8 lakh, registered in his wife's name at Airport road, Vasco and is constructing a bungalow on it. So far he has spent Rs 13 lakh on construction.
The official has also purchased a flat at New Vaddem, Vasco, worth around Rs 6 lakh. Besides this, he also purchased one more flat adjacent to his flat in New Vaddem, in the name of his sister, said the sources. The CBI officials also revealed that he has 10 accounts in different banks.
Besides household, electronic and other articles worth Rs 5 lakh were found at his residence in New Vaddem, during the raids. The CBI also found shares and jewellery worth over Rs 4 lakh. It was also found that the customs official also possessed one Santro and two motorcycles.
The sources further said that the CBI has registered a case under Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. -------------------------------------- The Navhind Times 23/03/03 --------------------------------------
