Group demands Dalit participation in church bodies >From Indo-Asian News Service New Delhi, Mar 26 (IANS) A Christian group Wednesday asked church leaders to allow participation by Dalit Christians in the administration of church groups. People controlling the churches should give a role to Dalits, who form the lowest rung of society, said R.L. Francis, president of Poor Christian Liberation Movement (PCLM). "To begin with, councils of Dalit Christians on national and state level should be set up to undertake their participation in administering church organisations," a PCLM statement quoted Francis as saying. PCLM was set up three years ago to protest the "anti-Dalit Christian policies of the Church leadership". Francis alleged that a handful of "elite Christians" wanted to keep the Dalit Christians, who account for 70 percent of the Christian community, "under their control and mercy by encroaching upon their right of participation in the church structure". He urged the group to prepare for a long struggle to achieve Dalit rights. --Indo-Asian News Service _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.goanet.org/mailman/listinfo/goanet
