HEMA SARDESAI, who incidentally is the sister of Goanetter Sunila Muzawar, was in full form at the Municipal Garden's weekend music fest on Friday. She had the kids dancing on stage, and, as always, put on a lively show with Hindi, English and Konkani numbers mixing almost seamlessly. As she sang, the rest of Goa listened as the programme was relayed live through All India Radio's FM service. Bondo, the man with magic in his fingers, was another crowd-puller getting out an amazing set of sounds from various forms of percussion instruments. "I've brought only a few toys along, normally I come with half-a-truck," he said. To appreciate Bondo, you have to watch him... the sounds conveyed by the radio would perhaps give only a pale idea of his showmanship, and imaginative skills in music. "Mine is Indo-Latin fusion," he said, but this time performed fusion with Yograj. Forefront was there, so were our Bardez musicians now under the label of the Alex Music Company (that is, Alex Braganza). Lucio Miranda, despite his recent accident, was on stage. Caetan Abreu, one of the Fontainhas lads of the 'sixties who has all that talent only waiting to be appreciated, also did perform. (Caetan has been writing on Goan music themes quite prolificly more recently.... Forefront and Belinda (Fernandes) were the other names being showcased in the 'I Love Panjim' concert. Old-timers and entertainment-starved Western music fans turned out in quite some number. Panjim Municipal Council's hard-working chief officer Sanjit Rodrigues is credited with taking much of the initiative on this. It's also clearly an opportunity for chief minister (and Panjim MLA) Manohar Parrikar to send out the right signals to a section of Panjimites, who have sometimes been hard to get convinced about his, and his party's, intentions. Sometimes, symbols could make a difference.... Or do they? Likewise, the Times of India, eager to get a toehold in the Goa market, has come in with support, raising some envy among other sections of the local press, who don't seem to otherwise believe that community papers should play a role in community-buildling too. Sometimes at least. FN _______________________________________________ Goanet mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.goanet.org/mailman/listinfo/goanet
