The Government's decision to promote the Konkani language is good, but not as far as education is concerned. It is a sudden change for the student to switch on from the Konkani/Marathi medium Primary School to an English medium Secondary School & is very difficult for students to suddenly adjust to this change. Complains have been heard about this from parents whose children are brought up in English speaking families itself. So you can imagine the plight of those who come from Konkani speaking families.
In the opinion of many, it is strongly suggested that Konkani/Marathi should be made one of the subjects just like the other subjects. The medium of instruction should be in English just like the good old days where we had good education in English & excelled just as well in the language subjects Konkani/Marathi without any complications until the Governments kept changing almost every year & with each new Govt., a new change in the system of education.
It is the politicians & elders who make the decisions & go on changing the system of education, & the poor school children have to suffer for it.
Worst of all, if one goes to see, the children of most of these politicians are educated in the best of English medium schools like Sharada Mandir, etc. & their children are not at all affected by these changing systems in education, syllabus, etc.
