The Naval Chief made it clear that the Sea Bird base does not have specious runway like one available at INS Hansa at the moment.
Sea Bird is basically meant for anchoring the naval ships. Moreover, sufficient time is being awarded for the civilian aircrafts even now. But the same one is not being utilized fully. However, we have made it clear that Dabolim airport will remain under naval control but will be used for both civilian and naval aircrafts simultaneously, he added.
A new Naval Academy is being set up in Kerala and the work is expected to be completed by December 2005. The present academy at INS Mandovi will be shifted to the new place by December 2006 and the place and infrastructure at Mandovi Naval Base will be utilized for some other suitable purposes, he informed.
The Naval Chief added that the rehabilitation of aircraft carrier Vikrant as a permanent naval museum totally depends upon the Maharashtra government's decision to make available a suitable place for her anchoring. The naval authorities have suggested a strip between Sasoon dock and the Oister rock island for the purpose.
The Centre has already sanctioned the acquisition of a number of ships for the modernization and strengthening of Indian Navy which includes the destroyers, landing ships, fast attack crafts and AD ship towards the replacement of aircraft career Vikrant and even two new trainers for the Indian Navy, he informed.
Meanwhile 127 trainees, including 101 sub-lieutenants, 6 cades of graduate special entry scheme and 20 assistant commandants of Indian Coast Guard passed out of the Naval Academy after successful completion of their initial naval training.

The Naval chief was addressing the Naval Academy cadets after reviewing the 66th passing out parade of the Naval Academy, held at INS Mandovi Parade ground today morning. Underlining the core naval values of patriotism (P), resolve (R) integrity and honesty (I) duty (D) and example for others (E), Admiral Singh appealed to the cadets and officers to understand, love and respect the oceans before the oceans can be used in peace as well as in war.
He commended the role being played by Naval Academy because it is flee cradle of all junior officers to be employed in different fields.
