I concede I do not know the machinations nor workings of the Public Service in Goa, including the Police and Judiciary. It is one thing to make sure that proper investigation takes place but it quite another when the C.M. pronounces that the version of the story of the alleged vicitm will prevail unless it can be proved otherwise. The burden of proof lies on the prosecution, they have to show that rape was committed.
First reports indicated that 5 youth were involved, then it became 6. Now it seems the girl has narrowed it down to 2 ! remarkable give her a little more time and she might remember some more. Her mother is talking to the press, it seems quite freely - this would be deemed to damage the case if there is one. Further more the filed complaint it seems can be varied or even changed depending on how the situation pans out, the words of the mother, not mine. I have not heard of the word burking before, we use the word burk, which is British slang, here in the U.K. which means stupid - for instance a person who is opinionated and contrives that others do not know what they are talking or writing could be termed to be a burk. I take it that burking meant that the police get a lot of suprious and silly complaints filed. Their nose told them initially that the rape complaint was one of these. Again I stress that I do not mean to impinge on any one's sensitivities, a little rationale thinking would make any person sit up and think is it what it is made out to be? The repercussions are that all the people concerned have had their lives damaged, together with their families. The Board of the G.O.A (U.K.) have been warned not to visit Goa anytime soon as a flogging awaits them.
