----------------------------------------------------------------------- Documented by Goa Desc Documentation Service & circulated by Goa Civic & Consumer Action Network (GOA CAN)<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Ph:2252660 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------- Schools re-open in Goa -------------------------------- The schools in the state re-opened today. The students went back to their schools without taking umbrellas and paraphernalia as monsoon arrival in Goa has been predictably delayed. However, the schools run in the city by the Mushtifund Saunstha will re-open on June 12.
Around 1,267 primary schools, 443 middle schools and 367 secondary schools were opened for the academic year 2003-2004 from today, after 43 days of summer holiday. Around 2.30 lakh students are studying from Class I to X in the schools majority of which are managed by private trusts and organisations receiving government grants.
It is learnt that there are some errors in some textbooks, including English Reader of fifth standard, which will now be reprinted by the publisher.
Some parents, speaking to The Navhind Times, complained about insufficient drinking water in the schools. The paucity of water is attributed to the delay in the arrival of monsoon.
The much-discussed government plan of day-long schooling could not be implemented this year. ---------------------------------------------- The Navhind Times 10/6/03 page 1 ----------------------------------------------
