CANAGUINIM DESALINATION PLAN: This is an imaginary story...When the government of Goa exhausted all the options to guarantee reliable water supply after the great Goan drought of 2003 and 2004, two options were explored--owing an iceberg from Antarctic and melt its water in a special plant in Marmagoa harbour and establish desalination plants near the seashore to meet the water demand. The first option is still under consideration. An iceberg exploration team is likely to leave from Goa soon. The second option was discussed with many water supply companies in Israel and in the Gulf region. A techno economic feasibility report was commissioned by hiring the services of an Israeli water company. The Israeli company was initially shocked to notice the heavy contamination of the sea water off the coast of Goa. But then it located a source just off the continental shelf close to Canacona, which could be tapped for the desalination plant..." (Nandkumar Kamat in Zest-NT)

WHY HURRY? "(Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ravi Shankar) Prasad is only thinking of the beaches and ambience to attract foreigners to the Goa festival. Why connect films with tourism? Isn't he putting the cart before the horse? What about films? Is he aware of how few Indian films have been accepted in the competition section of the Cannes festival? Not even a handful. What about the film culture in Goa? There are not even two-and-a-half cinemas in Goa. Are we in Goa exposed to European films? All we know is commercial cinema, Bollywood and Hollywood. Do they know that Cannes was started as a counter to Hollywood, now it is sold out to the Americans." (Well-known film critic Ervell E Menezes in an interview with Alister Miranda in GT)
