Man held for trafficking girls to the Middle East >From Indo-Asian News Service
New Delhi, July 2 (IANS) Delhi Police Wednesday said they had arrested a man who lured girls from poor families with the promise of jobs in the Middle East and forced them into prostitution. Shesh Nath Mishra, 40, who is known by many names, was arrested from his hideout in south Delhi. "We raided his premises in Munirka (in south Delhi) and rescued a 20-year-old girl from Pune," a police officer said Wednesday. He said Mishra, also known as Pappu Tiger, has connections in Dubai as he had stayed there for some years. "He used to search for girls from poor families and lure them with the promise of jobs. He used to arrange their passports and visas. But the women on reaching Dubai would realise that they were trapped in the flesh trade," the officer added. A carpenter by profession, Mishra went to Sharjah on an employment visa in 1999 and had also worked in construction companies in Dubai. Said the officer: "He was fluent in Arabic which helped in his nefarious business. He came in contact with a man called Pappu Driver in Dubai who introduced him to rich and powerful people. "He soon used his contacts to purchase visas and sell them on high margins. He also started supplying illicit liquor. "He found a novel way of removing his business opponents by informing about their activities to the Dubai Police which earned him reward money," the officer said. "Mishra came in contact with brothel owners in Dubai and on their request supplied girls from India," he said. "During our raids, we recovered the passport of the girl, a tourist visa for three months and her valid ticket for a flight for July 1. We also found two photocopies of his two forged passports." --Indo-Asian News Service ########################################################################## # Send submissions for Goanet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # PLEASE remember to stay on-topic (related to Goa), and avoid top-posts # # More details on Goanet at http://joingoanet.shorturl.com/ # # Please keep your discussion/tone polite, to reflect respect to others # ##########################################################################
