Our English-skills have been surpassed by those in many states, and other emigrants from other states have done far better by building linkages with home and ensuring that professional skills trickle back to communities at home (eg Andhra, Punjab, etc). The unhelpful attitudes of successive Goa governments have not helped either.
Fred, could you give us a few pointers why our English skills have been (or are being) surpassed? These skills are intrinsically important for job seekers (within and outside India). Think we have a flawed Education policy in our own Goa State that deprives young kids from an early head-start in English?
How about the Govt facilitating the educational infrastructure to attain proficiency in the language skills that will eventually determine what kind of earnings one brings home?
Or is it sufficient that our Govt officials send their own kids to private schools/abroad, while other Goan kids languish and fall behind?
Best wishes,
Joe Vaz
