When bharat took over Goa they forced in English and hindi overnight. Out of the window went Portuguese overnight. The primary school teachers had no skills were transfered to teach english. Then soon came the maratization concept by the MGP.
Goan education was adhered to Maharastra and couple of schools to Delhi Board. Many Goan educationists like my late uncle were shunted for supporting UGP during the Opinion poll. Now we see some intellectuals voicing opinions on the standards of english in Goa. Some discuss about Concani. There is so much confusion. Why not accept that this thingy called 'liberation' is an utter failure. People with quarta classe in Portuguese had and have better standards than Higher Secondary education in Goa today! --- Gilbert Lawrence <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > RE: English for Goan youth > > Helga do Rosario Gomes writes: > Many of our kids do lack writing, reading and spoken > English skills > and this is more so in households where parents do > not speak English. > In > households that do, things are not so good > either...... > > How little adults read in Goa.
