Dear Joe/Dr.Gilbert, My reference to 'pez' was in the Goan( not casteist, communal or class) context.I am not a follower of Manu's chatur varana. It does not make sense, except to the exploiters of man.Let us be crystal clear on that. Pez is an easy to digest over-cooked form of rice. That is what Goans have become.Practically spineless, cooked in their own pessimism, casteism and other 'isms'.To what caste did Jesus Christ belong. What class does a carpenter's foster son belong. If your neighbour's son was born before his parents were married, what would you call him? And we call ourselves Christians? With what right? Better that we take water in a coconut kotti and drown ourselves,as the konkani saying goes. Caste and civilized society cannot co-exist,not even in a Hindu rashtra ( or 'bharati invaders' as Mr.Bernado Colaco calls them/us). My father was a landlord (Bhadkar/Bhatkar/Bhakar) as were his forefathers as far as we can trace our geneology in the Communidade records. They were lawyers, doctors, professors, members of the Camara, honoured by the King and Salazar alike. They all ate/slurped pez with coconut jaggery or pickle sometime or other in their life.I have .So do my children. There is nothing to be ashamed if you have eaten pez.If you have never had pez in your life you are no more a Goan than a Chinaman who has not eaten steamed rice/noodles or an Italian who has never eaten pasta can claim their ethnicity. Those non-resident 'Goans' who have never eaten pez or canji/canje ask for some rice and the recipe. Those who are in Goa can ask their mother or neighbour. Enjoy mid-morning pez at least once before Goa goes 'Cannes'.Otherwise you may never understand what it is to be a Goan. You may think you are Arnold Swartzernegger or some swamp thing. Pez is not hard to digest in reality. It may be tough on the net. Regards, Miguel
