Notice on danger of mad-cow disease - By Our Correspondent New Delhi, Aug. 1: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the Union industry and environment ministries and the Central Pollution Control Board after a petition warned that there was an impending danger of the spread of mad-cow and foot-and-mouth diseases due to the unhygienic disposal of animal waste in 3600 abattoirs and slaughter houses across India. A bench comprising Justice Y.K. Sabharwal and Justice B.N. Agrawal also issued notices to the UP Industrial Development Corporation and the Agricultural and Processed Food Industries Export Development Authority on the allegation of the petitioner that they were trying to establish an abattoir at Aligarh without facilities for the disposal of animal waste.
