BAN ON COW SLAUGHTER: After much dithering, the Union government yesterday decided to ban cow slaughter, bringing the issue under the concurrent list which has the Centre's jurisdiction. "There will be a total ban on export of cow meat", Parliamentary affairs Minister and cabinet spokesperson Sushma Swaraj said after the cabinet meeting. (UNI report in H) Guessed as much the raiding of slaughter houses & seizing of meat with the excuse of unhygienic conditions was going to end in banning of cow slaughter. This is ridiculous. Beef has been part of the everyday meal for Christians & Muslims & even some broad minded & sensible Hindus since generations. How can the govt. ban it all of a sudden? Are they trying to find ways of inciting the minorities? Luiza de Mello Response: 1) Maybe it is only a ban on the slaughter of cows, Bulls will not come under the enforcement? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- 2) owners of cattle in the state can now be assured that they need not worry about their cows roaming around the shops, & roads. The Gov. may impound them but eventually they will have to be released. No slaughter! ########################################################################## # Send submissions for Goanet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # PLEASE remember to stay on-topic (related to Goa), and avoid top-posts # # More details on Goanet at http://joingoanet.shorturl.com/ # # Please keep your discussion/tone polite, to reflect respect to others # ##########################################################################
