Dear Bosco, Are the Kilmartins looking for the Albuquerque house[replica of the palace of the Sultan of Zanzibar] at Anjuna,Goa? I will need some details of what was written on the York Times in Australia,at least the names of the 'two women' interviewed therein.
'Figueiredo' is very much a name from Loutolim,Salcet-Goa,as in Georgina Figueiredo. There are few of them in Bardez[My in-laws,for example] as 'genro establicido' or 'ghor zanvuim' in families that had large properties and no sons to carry on the family name in a patrilineal society. The hyphenated [or jointed by 'de' or 'e'] names, usually with the maternal family name second from the last, were used for the children.[Figueiredo is the Portuguese word meaning 'Fig tree'. The other versions of the name are Figueredo,Figredo,Figuera,Figardo, etc] All the best, Miguel ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bosco - Goanet Volunteer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>" wrote: > Dear Mr Fernandes, > > My father, John Kilmartin, would like to find the address and contact numbers of > the two women interviewed by James Brooke in the The York Times Article on Goa. > He is looking for accomodation for him and his wife and is very interested in > staying in the *Figueiredo de Albuquerque Manor* as talked about in the article. > Jane Kilmartin > Canberra, Australia --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
