To,
Director of Information,
Udyog Bhavan,
Panjim Goa.
Sir,
Sub: Your Advertisement appearing in the Local news papers for Liaison
Assistants/Volunteers requiring persons conversant in English, Marathi &
Hindi.
The Goa Su-Raj Party views the complexion of the above advertisement as
biased against Konkani, which is the Official language of Goa. We do
understand the need for English and Hindi, since English is the commercial
language of India and Hindi, the national language. But the inclusion of
Marathi and by virtue of not mentioning Konkani, which is the mother tongue
of Goa, you have exposed your bias all too openly against the mother tongue
of Goans. Your above advertisement will discriminate against all Goans who
may be suitable for the job but who cannot converse in Marathi. Besides,
your target is major cities and towns of the Country and not Maharashtra
only. There will be Goans who love to converse in Konkani who will also be
patronizing these exhibitions across the country and who would be happy to
get the information in their mother tongue Konkani. Would you rather have
them talked to in Marathi?
By this advertisement, you have shown that your department in particular and
the government of Goa at large is totally anti-Goan and anti Konkani.
We shall be awaiting your kind response and explanation.
Yours faithfully,
for Goa Su-Raj Party.
