There can be no doubt that it is Miguel who ought to apologise to David Futers for asking him not to visit Goa every year.
I have met Dave Futers several times over many years and his selfless dedication to Goa puts me to shame. I would urge anyone who doubts this to check http://www.f-w-a.demon.co.uk/gonas/ Miguel seems to have made a bad investment with a rent-back scheme and he blames this on British charter tourists. It is the rapacious Goa property developers he ought to blame for this. It is they who conned gullible and greedy investors. The charter tourists tend to live in beach resorts after buying packages that include flights, accommodation and meals. Not all of them are wealthy enough to throw money around - the global economy discriminates against them too. It is despicable that there are people who look down on them for not having high spending power. How would these same people react if they had to face the same discrimination when they visited the west? However, my experience has been that most charter tourists spend generously and tip lavishly. They are fawned upon by waiters and taxi-drivers. Why? It is also a common misconception that British charter tourists pay next to nothing for their holidays. A basic package costs about Rs 2 lakhs for a family of four for a fortnight. Miguel had made repeated claims that the charter tourists are a drain on the economy. I reproduce his allegations below. Let him provide us with the figures or forever hold his peace. Cheers, Eddie Fernandes ============================================ Miguel wrote: 1. It is the poor tourists who come by charters and are actually a burden on our limited infrastructure without contributing anything significant to our GDP. 2. The money spent by the charter tourists does not finance the infrastructure they use. 3. charter tourists[specially, the British charter tourists] do not contribute directly to the Goan economy as much as it costs us to support the infractructure to host them. ########################################################################## # Send submissions for Goanet to [EMAIL PROTECTED] # # PLEASE remember to stay on-topic (related to Goa), and avoid top-posts # # More details on Goanet at http://joingoanet.shorturl.com/ # # Please keep your discussion/tone polite, to reflect respect to others # ##########################################################################
