CAG demands Judicial Inquiry in extensions and contract appointments ------------------------------------------------- At a largely attended public meeting on Sunday 5th October and organized by the Citizens Action group (CAG) at Institute Menezes Braganza hall, Panaji, it was unanimously resolved to fight tooth and nail against the government's faulty policy of granting extensions to officers on retirement and contract appointments.
In a resolution moved by former student leader Adv. Aires Rodrigues it was resolved to vociferously agitate against this unjustified and high handed action on the part of the Goa Government in granting extensions and making contract appointments which amounted to grave injustice to the younger officers and to the unemployed youth. The resolution has urged the Governor of Goa, Kidar Nath Sahani, to exercise his constitutional powers and order an immediate Judicial Enquiry to unravel the truth behind the granting of extensions to Government Officers and the Contract appointments made. The resolution further demanded that the Government of Goa take immediate steps to restore the Independence and autonomy of the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) so that the public regains its trust in the credibility of the GPSC. Addressing the meeting Dr. J.C. Almeida former Chief Secretary categorically stated that giving unjustified extensions to retiring government officers was bad practice and should be opposed. Dr Almeida also said that the VRS scheme launched by the Government had in no way improved the financial state of the exchequer and that officers with a lot of experience had chosen to opt out of the administration leaving the affairs to be mismanaged by inexperienced and incompetent hands. Convenor of the Group Mr.Premanand A. Lotlikar launched a scathing attack on the autocratic and dictatorial attitude of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and urged Goans to be very vigilant to safeguard their interests. Former Margo Municipal Vice Chairperson Ethel Lobo highlighted the malfunctioning and rampant corruption at the Margao Municipality. Adv. Aires Rodrigues urged the Government to order an inquiry into the very serious and corrupt malpractices going on within the Department of Craftsmen Training where a Pune person Mr Surendra Desai has been appointed as Director. Margao Municipal Councillor Auda Viegas strongly denounced all extensions and contract appointments and demanded that Government should not deny the unemployed a chance of Government employment. Floriano Lobo, Adv. Ranjit Satardekar, Ramnath Dangui and Mr. Armando Dias also addressed the meeting. Konkani Writer N.
