"Why do two villages have to endure the garbage created by all of Goa ?" he wonders. " Considering that I can hear the waves crashing in Chapora distinctly at night in Colvale, the villages of Siolim, Tivim, Revora and those around Mapusa will also have to bear the stink that will undoubtedly blow their way." Wendell shudders as he imagines garbage trucks "rumbling like war tanks on tiny village roads" that are not planned for heavy vehicles.
Even worse the though that "tons of garbage from Panaji, Mapusa, Ponda, the entire Candolim strip and the numerous industrial sites will move an masse to a very tiny village and ruin the beauty of the already damaged Colvale-Camurlim hills."
How do "we expect tourism to flourish while we systematically destroy the beauty of Goa," he asks.
Here comes the punch. Did you see it coming, Mr. Minister ? " Why doesn't Digamber Kamat and his bunch of committee members choose their own backyards for such projects ?" he asks.
Not content with cribbing, Wendell also proposes a solution," If every village and city in Goa resorts to dealing with their own garbage (eg. vermiculture pits, etc), it would be a wiser way to manage our garbage disposal. Two villages and their surrounding neighbours should not bear the garbage brunt of all of Goa."
His appeal: " My fellow Goans, we all need to revolt and stop this madness. In the month of October, Gandhi Jayanti, it is a pity that the Gandhian philosophy of self reliance has evaporated. Have we forgotten how Gandhi cleant his own latrines and swept his own garbage away? "
Then quite simply Wendell addresses Mr. Parrikar, Mr. Digambar Kamat and every MLA on the board, "Do not abuse our villages as dumping grounds for YOUR garbage mismanagement !
