SAR News October 17, 2003 Student Teams Help Mother Teresa Come Alive Kolkata: SAR News
A group of students from Kolkata schools have come up with a novel idea to bring alive Mother Teresa's memory in the Missionaries of Charity Homes after her beatification in Rome, October 19. The Don Bosco Youth Services, Kolkata, and the Interact Club are fielding 15 teams of students to bridge the gap in the nine-day celebrations planned here, November 1-9. "Hundreds of poor and destitute people in the Homes of the Missionaries of Charity will have a unique opportunity to participate in the beatification of Mother Teresa and relive cherished memories of their life - the memories of Mother Teresa herself," said director of Don Bosco Youth Services, Fr. Joseph Manipadam, the originator of the concept. "Students visiting the homes will have a first-hand experience of the type of people for whom Mother Teresa worked. At the same time, they can experience Mother's compassion and love for the poorest of the poor," added Fr. Manipadam, the designer of the two-hour programme. Each day from October 20, a new team of four students and Fr. Manipadam will visit one of the Missionaries of Charity Homes in Kolkata and its suburbs bringing memories of Mother Teresa and her mission of compassionate love. "We plan to screen touching movie clippings and audiovisual presentations on Mother Teresa on a giant screen to bring back cherished memories of her to those who knew her so dearly," said Mr. Siddharth Saraogi of Don Bosco School Park Circus. The Don Bosco Youth Services and Interact team will visit about 15 Missionaries of Charity institutions on the days that follow the beatification ceremony. Some of the institutions the team will visit are Sishubhavan Kolkata, Nobo Jeebon Howrah, Prem Dan and Shanti Dan Tangra, Nirmala Kennedy Centre 24 Parganas, Dayadaan Nimtala, Nirmal Hriday Kalighat, Mother House, Deepshikha Tangra, Beatification Institute AJC Bose Road and MC House on Park Street. Other institutes of the Missionaries of Charity in the neighbouring districts of Asansol, Chittaranjan, Kharagpur and Kidderpore will be visited in November. Interactors from GD Birla School, M.B. Birla School, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, St. Thomas Girls' School, Welland Gouldsmith School and Don Bosco Park Circus are some of those who will participate in the programme.
