Dear Sachin,
Forgive me for making a rural analogy. Every 'employee' [most journalists
are employees of a newspaper establishment]is like a bull tied to a stake in
the pasture.S/he can graze in a limited part of the
pasture[politics,events,sports,etc]. Some bulls are tied to a long
rope,others have to make do with a shorter one. The one that is "stall fed"
with choice feed can even fatten on the shortest rope! The access and the
quality of feed determine the relative strength of the bull in the system.
The bull can break free of the rope as the journo can break free from the
newspaper. What next? Stray cattle pound or the butchers' for the slaughter?
There is a certain safety in the "belonging".

If you tell everything exactly like it is....you may not be telling anything
to anyone for long. You can "tell the truth and nothing but the truth" but
not all of it ,everytime!

Said H.W.Longfellow :
"Unmingled joys to no man befall;
Who least ,hath some;
Who most,hath never all."

Fred may tell you more. He knows more about journalism than I will ever
know.

Viva Goa.

I am a little puzzled when he adds: "People who don't work in journalism
often don't understand the reality. Maybe one day, the lead of people like
Ben will also encourage others to tell their story."
>
> Suppose a journalist today tries to project the BJP in the same way that
Ben did at the time, and for the same reason, ie the owners of the
publication wanted it that way. Do we say that it is 'reality' and move on
with our  lives?
