---------------------------------------------------------------- FDA confirms larvae presence in chocolates --------------------------------------------------------------- The Food and Drug Administration in its analytical report found the presence of living larvae in the two infested Cadbury chocolates which had been handed over to it by two residents from Mapusa. The FDA Director, Mr S N Tripathi told The Navhind Times that the report confirmed the presence of the larvae and that the two chocolates were harmful for human consumption and therefore the chocolates were adulterated. The analytical report was prepared at the FDA laboratory.
The FDA also seized worth Rs 4.70 lakh Cadbury chocolates manufactured before June, this year, from the main dealers. Mr Tripathi said 20 other samples had been taken for preparing analytical reports.While few samples had also been taken but they found to be of the standard quality.
Replying to a question, Mr Tripathi said various angles were being explored to find out the exact cause of the adulteration of chocolates. He said since the matter was in the initial stage it could not be stated whether the chocolates were adulterated at the manufacturing stage or at the storage points.
Mr Tripathi, however, said that law would takes its own course but refused to say anything when asked whether the FDA would book a case against the company.
Meanwhile, Cadbury's production manager based in Pune arrived in Goa and held a meeting of the dealers.
