PANAJI: The Manohar Parrikar-led coalition in Goa completes three years in office on Friday with the government claiming it had "given the people of the state new hope and confidence."
Under the BJP-led government, Goa had been transformed into "a forward looking state, with all round social and economic development", an official brochure released on Thursday said.
The brochure, released by Information and Publicity Department, listed the achievements of the government, saying various welfare schemes for women, aged and students were implemented and steps taken to generate job opportunities to rural and urban youths during its tenure.
Parrikar had assumed office for the first time on October 24, 2000. With BJP emerging as the single largest party in the May 2002 mid-term elections, Parrikar assumed office for the second time heading a coalition government.
Revenue collection has also increased steadily and touched Rs 120 crore a month during the current financial year from Rs 63 crore a month three years ago, it said.
This was despite a reduction in power tariff and taxes on petroleum products, it said, adding state plan expenditure was up to around Rs 714 crore from Rs 237 crore then.
Several thousand jobs were expected to be created as the new state industrial policy declared recently focussed on higher economic growth and sustainable employment generation to the local youth, it added.
