But that is as far as improvements go. The manner in which the office conducts its business is a far cry from being smooth and efficient. To start with, the inquiry queue meanders right up to the front of the entrance. It would be prudent to shift the inquiry counter further into the office, or open more of them.
The government prescribed passport form includes 8 pages in English and Hindi, clearly stating the requirements needed to be submitted with an application. However, despite conforming to these requirements, one still finds he is short of something or the other. For example, while the checklist requires 7 photos of 35x35 mm, taken against a light background, the office asks for 8 photos of 35x45 mm, taken against a red background.
While the checklist requires one set of photocopies of proof documents to be attached to the application, the office asks for two sets to be attached to different sections of the form. In addition, the office requires the application form and attachments to be submitted in special colour-coded folders.
These and numerous other discrepancies result in one having to make repeated visits to the passport office and the inquiry counter. In order to streamline the process, it is strongly suggested that the Goa passport office comes up with a comprehensive list of its requirements which should be handed out with the form.
The passport officer is requested to tweak up the existing system, in order to serve the public and his staff better.
