------------------------------------------------------ HC notices to Govt. on erection of shacks -------------------------------------------------------
The Panaji bench of Bombay High Court on Monday issued notice to the state government and others on a petition filed by Fomento Resorts and Hotels Limited to restrain the government from permitting erection of shacks at Vaiguinim beach.
The petitioners, who own and operate a five star deluxe beach resort, Cidade de Goa, has stated that Vaiguinim beach was figuring in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) - III as per Goa Coastal Management Plan originally framed. But from December 2001 it was declared as CRZ-II. For this reasons, allowing the erection of shacks on the beach will be contrary to law.
The government had issued a notice in 2002 inviting applications for setting up shacks on the beaches of Goa. Vaiguinim beach was not notified in the notice.
