Dear Joe, I urge you to read, watch TV (the good kind), go on google and the Internet, like the rest of us folks, and find the information you seek yourself. Don't rely on me or those like Santosh Helekar you don't trust to give you the answers. The case of Galileo's condemnation as a heretic by the Inquisition for supporting the Copernician theory that the sun is the center of our solar system and that the earth revovles on its axis and goes around the sun, is so famous that I find it hard to believe that you never heard of it. The Inquistion ruled that he had contradicted Holy Scripture that said that the earth was stationary and the sun revolved around it. The trial document referred to a quotation from the book of Joshua about the sun in the Bible. Please read about the sun in this book and check it out for yourself. Pointless my doing the homework for you and then having you just attacking whatever I say. You can read about the Galileo trial for yourself on google which has excerpts from the Catholic Encyclopedia, l'Osservatore Romana (if you read Italian). Galileo was condemned and put under house arrest in 1633 and died in 1642. In 1981, the present Pope appointed a Commission to examine the Galileo case. He forgave him in October 1992 and Galileo was "rehabilitated" 350 years after his death! Why did the Pope have to forgive Galileo if he had not been convicted of some wrong doing? I have no idea what connections you draw between "faith" and "superstition" and Joseph Vaz and me and Galileo - superstition is when people endow natural phenomena or those in authority with supernatural powers and fear to examine, challenge, or change them. I don't fall into that category. Obviously, Galileo didn't either. My "faith" is my own business, nobody has a right to cast aspersions on it. Filomena
