The Ministry of Environment & Forests,Government of India, has announced the theme for its NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS CAMPAIGN 2003-04 as " Water: Elixir of Life.". This is the second year with the same theme. Rightly so because 2002 was the "Year of the Mountains" which one associates with melting snow that feeds our rivers, and this year 2003 is the "Year of Fresh Water".
All institutions and clubs/associations registered in India are eligible for funds from MoEF for conducting awareness campaigns such as exhibitions,seminars,workshops,rallies, walks,etc. Each applicant should have:1.Registration certificate 2.Audited accounts of preceeding two financial years and 3.Application form in the prescribed format.[Can be obtained by post from designated Regional Resource Agency or RRA] The completed form and enclosures must reach the RRA by 7 December,2003. The RRA for Goa and Maharashtra is BAIF Devp Research Foundation,Warje-Pune-411029. The email IDs are in the cc.column. The Botanical Society of Goa and the Directorate of Education assist schools and affiliate clubs to prepare the project proposals for funding and also to execute the projects in terms of resource persons and expertise. Last year many schools/clubs undertook cleaning up of natural springs in their locality under the "Action" component of the campaign.
