This new card, according to the objectives, will provide individual identification for every citizen, will act as a deterrent for future illegal immigration, will facilitate the public in strengthening various business within and outside government, will help obtain multifarious individual and socio-economic benefits and will be a basis for more efficient e-governance. The project envisages preparation of population register, creation of national register of Indian citizens, provide a unique national identity number to all citizens and will also update the register by linking it to the system of Registration of Births and Deaths under the Registration of Birth and Deaths Act 1969 and the provision of the Citizenship Act of 1955. A total of 32,000 families in Tiswadi taluka, North Goa will be covered under this project wherein a total of approximately 1,60,000 people will be issued the cards. The operations of this project in Goa is being looked after by the State government in tandem with the Directorate of Census Operations-Goa and the Directorate of Planning and Statistics. The project is being launched from November 15 to December 5, 2003 covering the entire Tiswadi taluka of the North Goa District. Enumerators have been appointed to visit houses for collection of data of all the family members.
