This has the reference to the repeated comments made .... I am sure most of us on the Goanet enjoyed it. It was a good, cheap or free entertainment but at whose cost?
When one regularly reads postings of an individual, be it on GOANET or elsewhere, it is often possible to judge him or her of his/her character, attitude, personality, age group, ethnic origin (whether true Goan or not) etc etc. There are people who are known (notorious) for showing their dislike for Konkani or the people propagating konkani in english. e.g. Quote:(1) "The comedy is: Goans who write extensively in English on the need to use Konknni. This beats me!!!:=)" Quote: (2) "I am at a loss to know why people write about using Konknni in the English language." There are some people who think they know all about GOA, its language, culture etc but in reality, all they have is a little knowledge or no knowledge at all. (see quote 2 and 3) Yet they try to teach konkani language to others by pin-pointing their spellings etc Quote (3):BTW the spelling of the language if I am not mistaken is Konknni and arouse me when there is a consensus on the spelling of Goenkar.=3D:))" Like empty barrel makes most noise, they now try to teach English too. Quote (4):If you live in England, you should know that an individual who does not have a father and a mother is an orphan 'AVOI-BAPUI NASLOLO' How one can best translate this into English? bearing in mind, the discussion is on 'Mother tongue' or 'Maim Bhas' 'A person without parents ?' 'A person without mother and father?' or if we just say 'orphan', will it serve the purpose? We Goan NRIs, whenever we write articles (postings, letter to the editor etc) we usually sign our names as Mr.XYZ Quepem (USA), Mr.ABC Aldona (UK) etc etc to indicate that we are from certain place from GOA and in the bracket to indicate currently we are in that country. But there are some ignorant people looking for e.g. Quepem on USA maps. What a true & blue blooded Goan? I really wanted to write more but with this category of 'Goemkars' it will be like 'casting pearls to the swine'. Conclusion: Comment only if you have enough knowledge of the subject matter. Little or no knowledge at all will make a fool of your self (as above) thanks for your time joe.
