Dear Goanetters, Sharon Sequeira, the person credited for the front page article in the Sunday oHeraldo date 16 Nov., needs a crash course in Arithmatic of Standard III---additions,substractions,greater/smaller numbers. Whereas 160 students registered for English against a sanctioned capacity of 150 students[5 years x 30 students],she finds the numbers DWINDLING. The same attends Konkani and Hindi, where the capacity utilization is more than 100% !
Only a mad person will enrol for a Post Graduate course in Portuguese. Like begets like. The few who enrolled during the past decade have regretted their decision. Nalini Afonso had to knock at the doors of the Panaji Bench of the Mumbai High Court to get her M.A.in Portuguese results. Fr.Eufemio Miranda cannot get his doctorate many years later.[ How can a good catholic priest file a Writ Petition against a good catholic lady from a good catholic family?] He suffers in silence as a parish priest in St. Inez, instead of being the Principal of one of the two Church run colleges in which he has lectured earlier. The oHeraldo has lost its sense of balance in publishing this article without verifying its contentious contents. I think a retraction will follow. It must...if there is honesty left and St.Rajan is not right. Viva Goa.
