Bobby Jindal, Republican candidate of Indian descent Bobby Jindal lost to Democrat Kathleen Babineaux Blanco. She made history Saturday night as the first woman ever elected governor in Louisiana.

With all 4,143 precincts counted, Blanco had 52 percent, or 730,737 votes, to Bobby Jindal's 48 percent, or 676,180, according to The Associated Press.

He is a former federal and state health official who was born in Baton Rouge six months after his parents emigrated from India.
Jindal appealed to the whites and had virtually no black support.
He, too, would have made history if he was elected - as the first non-white governor.
