(NT) PIL ON PISCICULTURE: A writ petition alleging the existence of illegal shrimp farms in Goa has been filed by students of Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar. The petitioners Anand S Kuvalekar, Aruni Naik, Ashwini Naik, Suvarna Khanolkar and Shashank Marathe alleged that about 50 to 60 such pisciculture farms are illegal. (GT) MASTER PLAN FOR REIS MAGOS FORT: For the first time in the archaeological history of Goa, a Master Plan is being prepared for the restoration and conservation of a monument of ancient and historical important. The Reis Magos Fort at Verem is back in the news once again as the state government has granted its approval for the preparation of a Master Plan for Reis Magos Fort by the Delhi based Indian National Trust for Art and Culture. (H) GOA'S TRAFFIC SCENARIO: Goa is seriously in contention for gaining the notorious tag of being the numero uno killer State in the country. With entire families getting wiped out on the killer roads, this fact becomes undisputable. Apparently, Margao heads the list in so far as the maximum number of accidents are concerned. (GT) BRITISH NATIONAL FOUND DEAD: A British national was found dead in a hotel at Arpora yesterday. According to the Anjuna police, Anthony William Edward Tony Cliff, aged 32, was found dead in his room by his room mates. He was residing in the hotel for the past 15 days. The body has been sent to the Goa Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. One Karim Rajasab Budhiyal, aged 27, and hailing from Belgaum, who was found moving in a suspicious manner, was arrested and ganga weighing 1.765 kg worth recovered form him. Meanwhile, two unidentified bodies were found--a female body at Hasapur and a male body near the Konkan Railway station at Malpan. (H) FATAL FALL: A slip from a mango tree resulted in the death of a 45-year-old man, Marian Alfonso, from Girkarwada in Arambol. He breathed his last while being shifted to the Goa Medical College Hospital. (H) MAN HELD FOR ASSAULT: The Verna police yesterday arrested Adrian Almeida of Cansaulim in connection with a case of assaulting John Moniz with a sword on October 25. (NT) HELD FOR ASSAULTING LANDLORD: The Curchorem police is on the lookout for one Jose from Chikonoli-Kakoda, who allegedly assaulted a landlord, Florencio Pereira, with a sharp weapon on Friday. (H) VOTERS URGED TO CHECK DRAFT ELECTORAL ROLLS: The voters from the state are requested by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer to check their names in the electoral rolls in view of the publication of the Draft roll as part of the Election Commission of India's programme of Summary revision of Electoral Rolls with reference to 01-01-2004 as qualifying date. The electoral roll will be available for scrutiny by the public from November 17 up to December 12 in the premises of the respective polling stations. Galgibaga, a picturesque village situated 5 kms from Poinguinim panchayat, has become a hub for the endangered species Olive Riddley turtles. These turtles were first given a new lease of life from man's commercial greed in September 1999, when a group of NGO volunteers headed by Harvey D'Souza and his team conducted a snake demonstration at the premises of Galjibaga church. The directory carrying around 500 telephone numbers was compiled by Goenkarancho Ekvott, a Goan organisation active in Delhi. "Five hundred is a conservative figure. I am sure there are more Goans," claimed president of the Ekvott, Suman Kurade. "Chitraswayamvar" by Atashree, Ponda, and "Astitva" by Sankalp Theatre Cultural Institution, Curchorem, have been selected for the second and third prize respectively.
